Finding a Second Career
If you are tired of your current job, and you are financially secure, then retire!
If you don’t like your present work, but you need the money, then continue with your current job, or find another job if you have been forced to retire, or simply start a second career.
No matter what, if you are a workaholic, find a second career.
By the way, why do people seek employment even when they don’t have to? Well, for most people, employment is a sign of self-respect, recognition from others, or a need for socialization.
But you can work at home and still earn your self-respect, as long as you deem yourself having accomplished what you have set out to achieve. As for recognition from others, job satisfaction has to do with self, and not with what others think of you; if you still entertain that mindset, now is as good a time as any to change it. Doing volunteer work can easily meet the need for socialization. So, these may not be valid reasons to seek employment after retirement, if you don’t need it financially.
That said, after retirement, finding a second career may still be an important priority for you. Unless you look for a completely new job and a new career, continuing to do what you were doing before your retirement does not present much of an incentive or a challenge in a new chapter of your life. In other words, unless you really enjoyed doing what you had been doing for years prior to your retirement, there is no rhyme or reason for you to continue doing the same kind of work that you had been doing for years before your retirement.
In your second career, try to do something totally different to add spice to your life. In particular, you would want your retirement to be rewarding and stimulating in order to delay any degeneration of the mind.
