Money Management Tips for Retirees
Finding What You Need

Entering retirement is a moment most of us look forward to, because it can give us time to relax and enjoy our "golden years." However, the current economic climate has meant that a lot of people entering retirement are left with little money and/or debts that have yet to be repaid.
With this in mind, if you've entered (or are entering) retirement, and you're worried about your finances . . . . what could you do to ensure you're always in control of your money?
Here are some money management tips for retirees:
Stick to a budget
Because you will have lost your main source of income, it's particularly important that you stick to a budget.
This doesn't necessarily mean that you have to live "on the poverty line" -- it just means that you've got to be aware of your spending to make sure you don't get into any financial trouble.
Your budget for retirement will probably be very different from what it was when you were working, but budgeting basics apply (as always) -- and it's important you keep on top of the money you spend to make sure your budget still works.
An easy way to keep track of everything you're spending is to simply write it down -- that way you'll be able to see where your money is going . . . and if you ever find yourself short of money, you'll be able to highlight areas you can cut back.
Of course . . . . you'll need to make sure you know how much money you've got available to spend at the start of each month -- that way you'll always be able to see how much you've spent, and how much you've got left to spend!
In debt? Seek debt advice
If you have entered retirement in debt (or are about to), don't worry -- there is help available.
The first thing you should do is to seek professional debt advice. You'll be able to speak to an experienced adviser about your situation -- and he or she should be able to offer you some "pointers"' on how you could manage your money better to help you become debt free as soon as possible.
Make use of free services
This isn't a "money management" tip as such, but to conclude this guide, it's well worth mentioning.
Make sure you take advantage of all the services available to pensioners: bus fares, library cards, discounts in shops, money off selected activities -- the list goes on . . . .
